LITERACY

Literacy encompasses the areas of reading, spelling and writing. Humans are not hard wired with these skills – they need to be learnt! Most children will learn these skills through Tier 1 intervention (classroom-based learning) and will never require any further input. However, some children struggle to read, spell or write and will require Tier 2 (small group-based learning) and/or Tier 3 (1:1 learning) intervention. Tier 3 is where we, as Speech Pathologists, come in. We provide a comprehensive language and literacy assessment where we identify the underlying cause and then, develop a tailored intervention program. Our therapists are trained in Sounds-Write,  Spalding and have a thorough understanding of the phonemic approach to literacy.
